Bruce Richmond
1957 - 2003

When it comes to recognizing people who contributed to other's success in pylon racing, it is hard to imagine someone more deserving than Bruce Richmond. After all, Bruce was one of the most prolific builders of Formula I aircraft, completing over 200 planes while working his way through college at Georgia Tech. To own a "Body By Bruce" was to have a strong, straight and perfectly crafted machine. You were also practically guaranteed to be in the first takeoff position.

Majoring in engineering, Bruce was what I'd call a "walking time motion study" machine. In order to build that many planes, he developed a multitude of techniques to maximize output, avoiding all the time wasting activities. Bruce was a multi-tasker with enormous cranial capacity, it was easy to talk to him while he was whizzing through some building task, always a delight to observe.

Bruce was a great friend to many. He was always there to lend a hand, always consistent in his nature and he easily bonded with fellow fliers. Bruce was always a welcome sight to everyone whenever he arrived at a race. He mentored many, both in modelling as well as in his position at Anderson Consulting. It was just "in his nature".

His skills in pylon racing are legendary too. His intensity helped him stay constantly focused, a skill so necessary in pylon racing. In 1988 he won everything there was to win in Germany. As a member of the US FAI team with brother Brian in 1987 as a caller and again in 1989 as a pilot they won the team event hands down.

Bruce is also credited with starting many of the NATS during the 90's. As we know, Bruce left us at the early age of 45 but his contributions to fellow modelers and the NMPRA will not be forgotten.

The Richmond Brothers (Bruce Center) were born into a modelling family. Their dad Stu (AMA Hall of Fame) would be so proud of Bruce.
