Re: Motor Question
I'm gritting my teeth trying to NOT get in on this one :o But----,since there are backroom discussions about this, I'll chip in! To my knowledge there is nothing you can do by changing the shaft or bearings (unless you have bad ones) that will give your "Approved" OEM motor some sort of an advantage...

Re: EF1 batteries
In general the higher the "C" rating the lower the internal resistance of the cells. Also higher capacity cells, all else equal, will have a lower internal resistance. Therefore a Nanaotech 2250 will have a higher internal resistance than a Nanotech 2700 - given they are both 65-130C cells. A higher...

Re: EFlite 60 esc....caution
Had this happen to a friend, using a XT60 connector that was a little "LOOSE" there was enough heat generated to melt the plastic and fuse the connector such that we had to cut the wires to disconnect it. If it was "only" the connectors, I would just put a new connector on being sure that the solder...

Re: speed controls
The Plush 80 is an excellent choice, seems as good as the Castle but doesn't have data logging and saves $$$. The Castle 75 and 100 are also excellent, I changed to the 100 it because of the logging capabilities, I'm big on understanding how my motor and batteries are working. If you are into that t...

Re: Metronome Beeper
I updated the "BeeperBOM.pdf" to change a reference to the 2N2222 transistor to a KSP2222 transistor. The "2N" is not used very often anymore since it's getting a bit long in the tooth, so the suppliers have put a premium price on the "real" ones. The KSP part is an equivalent that costs like 25 cen...

Metronome Beeper
There has been some interest in the "Beeper" or metronome I built to aid the caller timing for the 3-1 leg of a lap. I have sent out a few of the chips to those who have asked and I thought I would put the info here for others to peruse! The beeper was originally developed in the '80s here in Califo...

Re: Programing E-Flite ESC
Sorry --- can't help you there. I use the Castle 100 and it has a computer interface - which makes it easy. I have also used the Hobby King Plush 80 that has a programming card that you can plug in and just push a couple of buttons to change settings. It's also very good price, and I can't see any d...

Re: Programing E-Flite ESC
All of those should be good. I use 20 deg timing, but you could try both and see if you get an RPM increase, we racers aren't interested in being the most efficient, just the fastest  PWM is not important, it's switched out at full throttle, and only makes for smooth response for the 3D and hel...

Re: Electronic Speed Controller No BEC in EF1
Many guys are using the Castle 75 with good success. I have used the Plush 80 from HK and it is very good. I changed to the Castle 100 (Edge Lite) to get data logging and on the theory that more switching transistors in parallel lower the "on" resistance. It is only 15 Bucks more than the 75 and wei...

Re: Shoestring
Lots of info on the Shoestring on the RCgroups forum here: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1490546 I had good luck with mine by just pushing the cowl on all the way to the canopy "step" and letting it set for a week, it seemed to take a set after that. it might speed up the process i...

Re: Electric Formula Rules (EF1) Proposed Rules
Dan,
I see you allowed for 16.9V on the battery test, to allow for variations in chargers, but the second line only allowed for 16.8V.
I'm guessing this was a typo.

Re: Shoestring Aluminum Spar Folding
Well-- maybe I'm a little too heavy on the Elev. Seriously, I and my partners have had about 5 of the Shoestrings and they all bent, at least those that were flown before the tube was replaced. I have also heard of others. I have never, however, heard of one folding! I noticed it on my Shoe wh...

Everyone I know of has had a problem - at least if using the racing setup.
