Re: Your latest creation
I should have known better; went with chrome trim on another all-wood Quik-V (Manzano Laser Works fuse, my own laser-cut wing). But during first flights I was either blinded by the reflection or lost the plane all together, so today I removed the chrome and replaced it with dark red. That should be ...

Re: May Model Aviation
Thanks guys. The article about aluminum pistons (with the back story provided by Dub) was inspired by a guy named Kevin Cameron who is a writer for one of the motorcycle magazines. The difference between him and me is he can write from actual knowledge and experience, where I got my material from Du...

Quick question:
Just wondering how you harden the threads in holes taped into wood; wing mount blocks, landing gear blocks, etc. I used to apply 30-minute epoxy in the threads, the re tap, then I moved onto thin CA (three times, re tapping the threads between each), but anymore I just apply CA once. Just curious wh...

Wow! Fantastic paint jobs! What paint is on that violet thing? I'd like to see that one on the air. Cool color!

Re: What'cha workin' on?
Just received my Manzano Laser Works Quik-V7 fuselage kit - 4th one! Got my own-design all-wood Quik-V wing ready to cover (after mounting to the fuse).

Re: CMAD Small Wonder build pics
Tim, What do you use to balance your plane? Trey Hi Trey. I use this laser-cut C.G. stand. I came up with the idea when I was working on the Great Planes Rifle in the R&D dept. at Hobbico. The plane is pretty small and fast, so getting a good C.G. reading was important. So I came with this simple s...

Re: CMAD Small Wonder build pics
Here's a picture of the balsa stick that I glued to the bottom of the fuel tank. The wing presses on this stick to hold the fuel tank into place (in the cradle with the wedge shown during fuel tank installation in the first build). With no additional ballast this Small Wonder balances at 3-57/64" (a...

Re: CMAD Small Wonder build pics
I used a piece of 120-grit sandpaper to sand the LE of the ailerons and TE of the wing at the aileron opening to slightly open the gap to make sure the two surfaces wouldn't interfere. (I did the same on the rudder before painting the fuselage as well.) I made the same aileron servo tray that I made...

Re: CMAD Small Wonder build pics
Okay, where was I? Oh yea, time to pot the wing to the fuselage. I've found that clear RTV silicone works best for me - seems to adhere to the fuselage really well. First though I bolted the wing to the fuselage and checked the incidence of both wing halves with two Robart incidence meters. The wing...

Re: What'cha workin' on?
I'm not a huge fan of pink, but I do like THAT color. Can't quite say why, but I like it.
Looking good!
I'm building another wood QV wing. Gotta order a Manzano fuse pretty soon:

Re: CMAD Small Wonder build pics
I decided to use single-stage paint on the wing tips and elevators. I also made a last-second decision and decided to paint the belly pan black. I had extra paint mixed up and was just in the painting mood. I could have/should have just used white vinyl for the 16u on the wing tip, but no, I ...
