Re: what plane is this?

This is my original Miss Foxy Lady. I built and painted it for Rick, way back. Foam wing, glassed. I built one for Knepper at the same time.

DK

Have him reach out to me. Interested to know what he wants to get for it.

Re: EF-1 Foam wing sheeting (DK Rickey Rat/Miss DARA)

Sheeting a foam wing cont: The next series of photos will show how I prepare sheeting and sheet the wing. You will need 8 pcs of 1/16" X 4" x 36" balsa to sheet a full wing. Yes you will have some scrap. I use a full width sheet along the LE, a second sheet along the TE trimmed to mate with the LE a...

EF-1 Foam wing sheeting (DK Rickey Rat/Miss DARA)

The next series of photos and text represent the process for sheeting a set of foam wings for an EF-1 racer. In this example I use Gorilla Glue. However, if you wish to use epoxy it is exactly the same process. To start I assemble the end of the joiner tube supports. Each panel receives a 3/16" bals...

Re: MFL (CMAD) Build instructions

MFL cont: One scary task is drilling pilot holes for landing gear. Scary, because if you have ever done it, you probably drilled through the top skin. Yep, I have been there did it. SO, I created a 3D printed drill block to act as a drill stop and place the holes in the proper place. I use a #49 dri...

Re: MFL (CMAD) Build instructions

MFL cont: The following set of pictures show the process I use for servo tray assembly and installation: I assemble the supplied servo tray by adding balsa support to the back side. Two long strips of 1/4" triangle stock are glued to the bottom of the tray along the long sides to provide a larger gl...

Re: MFL (CMAD) Build instructions

MFL cont: Once you are happy with how the stab fit, move onto elevator horn. The previous post shows how I would like to see the stabs fit the fuselage fillets. You should do your best to make these fit as tightly as possible to prevent any undue wear caused by ill-fitting stab 1/2s. One exception t...

Re: MFL (CMAD) Build instructions

MFL cont: Next I will work on the rudder horn and stab install. I use a long 3/32" drill bit (available from McMaster Carr) to open a passage through the hood molded into the fuselage. Once done I mark a center line for where the horn will be located using the drill bit and the bottom cut of the rud...

Re: MFL (CMAD) Build instructions

MFL cont: Next tape the wing in place. Line up the center line of the wing with the center seam of the fuselage and tape the wing down as shown. Once you are happy with the alignment, flip the model over and add additional tape along the fillets securing the wing to the fuselage. The reason for this...

MFL (CMAD) Build instructions

I will use the next series of posts to document the process I use. If you have any comments or additional details feel free to add to this chain. I start with mounting the wing. The MFL has some counter sunk recesses molded into the wing. The front bolts are designed for 1/4-20 and the rear for 10-2...

Re: 2024 Nats Schedule and Format

Doug,

My preference would be for 424 and EF-1 NOT to be combined. I would like to see 424 run to completion and then start EF-1 and run it to completion. In my opinion this is better for workers, pilots and callers. I don't feel it is a necessary burden to add to the events.

Re: 9x6E Prop for EF1 and 424E

Will I be able to use my grey props until my supply is exhausted other wise it will be in the stack of obsolete 8x8 props. I bet I have $50 bucks worth of "Useless props" Sparky Sparky, APC has been a huge supporter of our events. So much so they have given away more props than most of us have purc...

Re: 9x6E Prop for EF1 and 424E

Tim, The 8/8 props are out this year, unless someone makes an emergency rules proposal to allow the 8/8's with the 9/6's. What's the problem with having two approved props? This is what should have happened last year, but just like the "battery" proposal it was shoved down our throats! If the 9/6 i...
