A couple new EF-1 pilots

Post by kane »

This morning I met a couple of new pylon pilots in Wheeler, Indiana.

Jim DeYoung raced way back. He was the designer and MFG of the Folkerts QM15. He is an incredible craftsman and after leaving pylon back in the early 90’s Jim dabbled in Control Line Stunt for 10 years and switched gears by flying IMAC. A couple months Back we started talking about pylon and Jim wanted to get into EF-1. So he got an Elbert little Toni kit and convinced his flying buddy Pete Stypuloski to get an outrageous so they could give it ago.

I met them early and Jim pulled out some pylons he had from 30 years ago and we laid out an EF-1 course on the grass field. We talked about flying and I gave a quick run down on what to expect about take off and race procedures and off we went. Their good friend Ed Rogalla showed up and served as a makeshift pylon one judge as they took turns trying beat each other’s time. I coached them on flying the course and in the end they were turning very respectable times for first time and first time in 30 years pylon pilots! It was a fun morning to be able to hang out at the field and have a couple of new pilots get excited about racing.

Happy 4th boys!
