paint

Post by Bruce Coffey »

Does anyone know of a rattle can paint that would be suitable for an airplane stand? (fuel proof). Thanks

Rattle cans are typically Enamel or Lacquer,, and do not hold up to Wx!!!

Use exterior rated product and think about a good oil stain as opposed to paint!

Stain saturates the wood!!!

From a design perspective, after I made mine,, I discovered I wanted to use the airplane stand to hold the Engine test stand as well, cause the height is just better :D

My first attempt was with whatever was in the wood shop, no stain or paint, and now is totally falling apart :o   :P

Bruce,

1. SEM rattle can Primer, the rose colored version seems to cover best.
2. Dupli-color rattle can, or Rust-oleum
3. Automotive paint shops now sell clear coat in a can, that is one time use. it has a plunger on the bottom of the can that sends the activator in the aerosol.

Works great, lasts long time!

Cheers, Dave

I think this is the clear Dave was referring to. I got a can at my local paint store, then found out Amazon was considerably cheaper (problem with living in a small town with one paint store). I've used it on a test stand, line box, and stand and it's holding up great.

I have had a lot of success using VHT engine enamel paint. It is fuel proof but is more costly than the average paint can. I have painted 3 boxes and one repair on an airplane with VHT. I coat the box with thinned resin, then sand it, then coat it again, etc until it is smooth. Then I will paint some coats of primer and color. https://www.vhtpaint.com/
