Cliff Telford Memorial Tangerine 2021 "PLEASE READ ASAP"

Post by G.Freeman Jr. »

I am getting push back from the club this year on hosting Tangerine. The main reason being is we shut the field down for 3 days and didn’t make any money. There were several factors involved for the negative return (equipment rental cost, no food for sale, etc).

If there is any chance for me to sway the board in considering hosting the event this year, I will need a few things.

First and foremost, I need a commitment from each of you to preregister. Please only do so if you are fairly certain you will make it. If you are on the fence consider this, if we don’t have tangerine this year, we may never have it again and that would only leave one other field in Florida to host a race. If you love pylon and want to see it continue, please consider making this race. Also, please understand that to show a good positive return we will be selling food, raffle tickets for prizes, and doing a 50/50. Please support each of these as much as you can if this race happens. I will be looking at other options for helping with income for the race.

I am not looking for any negative feedback on this. I am just doing everything I can to see this legacy continue and persuade the club to hosting this event. We used to race 10 out of 12 months a year with 4-5 clubs hosting. We are down to 2 and I would hate to lose one of those 2.

The tentative schedule would be Dec 4th and 5th.
4th - 424/Ef1 and 426
5th - 424/Ef1 and 422

Again, please reply to this post ASAP if you plan to come. If we don’t see a good number of entries quickly this doesn’t have a chance of happening.

Gary is absolutely correct :) :D  ,,, Contestant attendance is the critical path!!!

I feel, Florida racing is limited, today, because of National Calendar conflicts, Summer Heat  , and a floating date Champ Race  !

When we took over SEMPRA,, the pilot per day/per class fee was $3.50, that changed immediately to $5.00 and remains.

In my early pylon days,,, in SoCal, attendance was always good as were club profits,, today, in Florida, I am convinced,, fewer high attendance events will be successful! When DeLand hosted an all Q-40 event the attendance was overwhelming and the club delighted! :P  :D

If we consider,,, with sitting on a metal chair for two days, a burger, chips, soda, and bottled water,, as compensation, and loosing the field for three days,,,, The Club president, clearly, needs as much leverage as possible to motivate the membership to support this 60+ year institution, or any event!

In our country,,, wealth is the primary motivator, and that, for Pylon, translates to attendance!!

That said,,, I was so disappointed when the Sautee'd Onions were dropped from the Snack Shack menu :o  , then the whole food deal ceased, so it's return is very positive!!! And yes,,,, we MUST support that too,,,,, even if no onions   !!!!

426 422 Lloyd
Nepro is in the same sinking ship. We are down to 1 club willing to host a race. We did a 1 day event in August 424 426 Q500, where NEPRO donated the fuel, 100% of the entry fees, trophies and a free cookout at night. Club netted $600. It did guarantee us a date for next year.

"M" pulled the invoices,,,
2019 we had 29 Saty, 30 Sunday.
2020 we had 24 both days.

During lunch today,,, "M" made an interesting comment,, RC Clubs have yearly membership dues, most in the $100 per person range,,, SEMPRA has 10 current members from it's last membership drive,,, two of them us. :P

If SEMPRA had a greater pilot support, it could, potentially, do something similar to NEPRO  :o :P :D

Finally,,, I would not count Daytona out!!! As I've stated repeatedly, there is just no place for them based on the current national calendar! At the Muncie August race, I think it was Robert Vess who said,,, Daytona would be a great place to have a December race,,, just because of the Name, if for no other reason,, no argument there!!!!!  :P :D
