Name that plane...

Post by gmc »

I have an airframe of an unknown (to me) design (thanks Scotty!) Hoping someone can identify it...
Here's some pics:

Would appreciate any input on the plane..
Planned to be my second E424.

Thanks!

A scat cat or spickler would be my guess

It looks like a “Texas Outlaw” or a slightly modified “Scat Cat” in California the Q-500 rules stated that the horizontal stabilizer had to have an 80 square inch area.

The tail (vertical fin) and landing gear (in wing) haven't matched any pic I've found...
Have not found a pic of Texas Outlaw.
Vertical fin doesn't match the scat cat photo posted (was my first thought too).
Vertical fin and gear didn't seem to match the one spickler pic I found.
Still hunting...

Curious as I cannot tell. Is the fuse wood or fiberglass?

Its a Viper brought out by Hobbico in the early 90ties. Was all built just had to assemble and cover. Could be built as a T or V tail.
I had one and was a very good flying quickie.

Winner, winner. I agree it is a viper (an early one, as shown in Ken's picture).

Thank you KJF (and all)... I think we've got it there...
Funny I have a NIB Great Planes version of the Viper500 RTC sitting 10 feet from this Viper... It is shoulder wing, and V tail version, so didn't connect it with the older versions of the Viper.
Working on getting this one ready for E424.

Thanks again!
