I started today out by planning on the November Guadalajara race. This race is in Mexico and requires a passport to fly there. If you don't have a passport, send the application in now to insure there is enough time.
The overall cost of the trip will be similar to flying to a US contest but rental car prices are high. Our group has been sharing the cost of a van to reduce the individual cost.
The airline tickets are similar in price to US trips if you buy the tickets through Volaris or other Mexican airlines. We have been traveling on a Wednesday or Thursday and returning on a Tuesday.
We have been staying at the Radisson Hotel Tapitito in Guadalajara. It is about 15 minutes from the field. The last few times we got the best price though Priceline.

There are many ways to get your models to Mexico. The last couple years I transported them in a Sportube 3.
This year I will probably use models with 2 piece wings. That allows a smaller case like the pictures below:
