2023 Pylon Nationals

Post by mikecondon »

The final format for 2023, will be posted by end of day Monday, June 5th. It has been a very difficult process with only 5 weeks left to work with. We feel strongly that it will be a great format accepted by all.

The NMPRA will fly the 426 & 422 pylon
classes at the 2023 Nationals in the
following format:
426...A qualifying single matrix of all
registered contestants that will consist of
8 rounds. The top 28 finishers will then
compete in a Finals single matrix that will
consist of 5 rounds. The winner of the
Finals will be the class National
Champion.
422...The event will be run under the
Single Matrix format and the winner will
be declared the National Champion.
Upon completion of the 422 championship, we will have a Sweet 16 Final... consisting of the top 16 finishers(pre-signed up). 4 heats of 4, taking the top 2 finishers of each. Then 2 heats of 4 taking the top 2 of each to make up the final heat of 4 for the winner.
424, EF1, Iron Man and best of show will remain the same as orginally posted.
Looking forward to a great week consisting of something for everyone!!!... :D

Hi Mike. At the appropriate time, can you add some clarity to this?

I'm reading this to understand that since 422 will be a completed event with a National Champion declared this Sweet 16 is not a battle of 2nd, 3rd and so on.

The sweet 16 final is another event another matrix? What does pre-signed up mean?

422 will be run as a Single Matrix. 10 rounds. The top 7 will recieve trophy placement based on order of finish. That will conclude 422.
At processing for 422, you will be asked if you wish to fly in the Sweet 16. Only those who declared yes will be counted for the top 16 places in the 422 matrix. Details for the placement for the 1st 4 heats will be determined before beginning of 422. 4 trophies will be awarded. The Sweet 16 will consist of a total of 7 heats. Time will be allowed for pilots to prepare for 2nd round of 2 4 plane heats. Hope this clears up your concern.

If nothing else, the format of the day scenario is interesting if not comical! Guess it's still better than drawing a name from a hat to decide finalists. Good luck to all participating...

So Sweet 16 is supposably the same as Super Finals in FAI racing?

You can't sign up for a Super finals, you have to earn a spot. Then you can decide if you want to fly it or not.
And I said, here am I send me.

One of 2 ways will be used.
1...The top 16 place finishers will qualify. If any withdrawal, we move down to 17th etc. until we have 16.
2...A pre sign up yes/no only declares weather you are competing for the top 16. If you declare no, you will not be eligible. Only the top 16 who declare Yes.
I feel this gives complete understanding of the format. See you all soon!! 8)
