Thanks to those who have reached out so far. We appreciate it.

Please don’t wait too long. Some Board members may need a bit of time to compile the input before they have to vote no later than the 15th.

Thanks for the reply Jim. Could you give a quick explanation as to the theory behind the EF1 prop change?

I will do my best to explain.

Way back when EF-1 was created, Pete Bergstrom, Jerry Small, George Parks, John Jennings and Archie Adamisin Jr tested electric QM15 models and it was determined that a new size was needed and the Pogo was developed. At the time the 8x8 offered the most speed and all other characteristics were disregarded. Archie tested both 3S and the 9x6 combo and suggested the slower option. The group decided that was not an option and went for the 8x8. In the beginning of EF-1 several airplanes were lost due to the torque on take off and go around. Many on the first flight. Obviously with some rudder management and some throttle control all the airplanes fly.

Fast forward 12 years and in the Midwest we started playing around with 424E. We are using the EF-1 power package (motor, batt and ESC). We started with the 9x6E. It was immediately apparent that the 9x6E jumped off the ground, didn't do anything stupid with regards to torque and was darn near the same speed as EF-1 and had the same current draw. After seeing how well it behaved with the Q500 stuff we tested them on EF-1. Same characteristics were seen.

Since 424E is now a rule book event we felt it would be best to have one prop for both. In fact every beginner pylon guy I have worked with switched to the 9x6 and had a much more pleasant experience. EVERY single one. It is great that us experienced guys want to go fast, but it is also important to consider the new guy. Having the same equipment for everyone is key to one not feeling they are at a disadvantage. Therefore only one choice.

Benefits:
1. Less Torque
2. Straighter take off with more authority
3. consistent use of one prop across two events
