Pylon Racing near Charlotte, NC

Postby DonStegall » Tue Sep 05, 2017 4:56 am

Is anybody interested in some pylon racing on the field behind my house outside of Charotte, NC? https://www.google.com/maps/@35.0980723,-80.5539146,714m/data=!3m1!1e3?hl=en

The field is now in much better shape then even the satellite shows. The runway is at least 800' x 80' feet and will soon be over 1000' long

We would do http://Club40Racing.com ... http://MiniWarbirdRacing.com ... possibly http://ClubWingman.com and racing with the http://www.abmshowcase.com/the_wings_maker/electric/handyman_twins/default.aspx

We're going to do some testing to see if NMPRA EF1 (http://EF1Rules.com) can be flown here.

The 2017 racing would be in October and November.

I will have at least one FPV Quad Racing event here in October or November.

I used an FPV racing quad to shoot this video using a GoPro 4 on front. My googles weren't on good, so I limited what I did. It was very windy as well.

Now that I have much more unrestricted use of the field behind my house, I'm getting it back in shape.

The smooth part of the runway is now over 800' x 80' with 600' of that smooth enough at least for Club 40 planes. Possibly EF1. The issue with EF1 is not going to be flying on the course. It is be seeing if the runway or takeoff area is smooth enough for takeoff. The bigger challenge will be landing as there are trees at each end of the runway. I think good pilots will not have a problem with EF1 planes, but lesser pilots like myself may have a hard time getting an EF1 down. I have flown 424 planes here in the 2001-2005 years with no problems.

We had "Pylon Parties" in 2005 through 2007 with Club 40 on a 400' x 100' 3 pole course. I now have the 375.5' x 100' 3 pole NMPRA EF1 course set up in the same spot.

On Saturday I found one of the course markers, then on Sunday I found the rest. I measured out a new EF1 course and the AMA Short Course.

The runway at the North end of the field is being groomed and will be getting grass seed on it soon. The runway will be over 1000' long.
