This is the first of many short tips on how to finish a composite Q500. They are based upon installation in a "Phoenix" that is currently being produced by Jim Lime (eight zero six - 553-5478).

I began by temporarily adding the fuel tank to the fuselage. This is done as it gives you an idea how much room is available for radio installation. The area behind the tank is available for servo installation.

The second picture shows a radio installation of an earlier model, Candy Kane. I am going to copy the installation as this setup works well.

I used the tray that was provided with the model. Make a tray out of 1/8" thick aircraft plywood if you don't have one.

Install the grommets and eyelets in the respective areas on the servos.

Install the servos and switch on the tray.

Temporarily place the servo tray, with servos, on the inside bottom of the fuselage.

Trace a line on the fuselage to identify the location of the tray.

Use the line as the frame of reference for the rest of the servo tray installation.

Cut and tack glue (just slightly below the line) with CA, a couple pieces of wood to hold up the tray. I used 1/8" thick strips of spruce but balsa works equally as well.

Shoe Goo* was used to attach the servo tray and rails. This type of adhesive is available under several different names and is basically a rubber cement.

I've found that it works very well for attachment of parts on a fiberglass fuselage.

*Note: Some modelers use Silicone Rubber adhesive instead of Shoe Goo. Just don’t use GE Silicone II as it doesn't hold good enough.
