I would like to let everyone know that EF-1 is now an official AMA event. It is included in the 2022 rulebook located here:
https://www.modelaircraft.org/sites/def ... 2-2023.pdf
Note: Early in the document it is listed as AMA 427, later listed as AMA 428, this is an error and the CB is working on a solution. In either case it is official.
Here are a couple of items to note that make them different from NMPRA rules:
1. 3D printed parts may be used for non structural items; cowls, turtle decks, fillets, and canopies for example.
2. Wheel pants: Wheel pants will be optional if found on full-scale aircraft and shall be no thinner than 1” (25 mm) at axle area. The Contest Director may waive the wheel pants requirement if local field conditions make the use of wheel pants inappropriate. Wheel pants that become damaged during
competition may be removed for the remainder of competition with CD approval.
3. The movable elevator and rudder control surfaces may be tapered in a straight line or convex taper to a minimum of 1/16” trailing edge. LE of all tail surfaces must still be rounded.
4. Spinners no longer need to be commercially available.
At the NATS this year we will be following these published rules.
