Can we now create a faster EF-1 class event? An airframe a little bigger, powered by 6-8 cells.
The future is Electric,

How about Q40 speed using AMA 422 airframes and props?

I have been testing a setup with a current 422 airplane that is on 6s batteries, a Castle Creation 130A ESC and the standard props that are used in 422.

It is still a long way from rules, but if interest is there could be a possibility.

Yes, I saw that Bruce de Chastel has design and built an Electric 422 Pylon racer, 8)

what about a 426 plane that is electric?

enough interest? btw, I'm looking to make my quickie electric, does anyone have suggestions for motor and battery combination to get it to 140-150mph.

but I do agree, the future is electric, can only hang to nitro for a while ( please no hate, nothing like the smell of nitro in the morning)

If the sport is to survive , need youth, need more electric. With the things that CARB is doing on banning engines under 25 hp by 2024, how long before they come after your model airplane engines. Things haven gotten that crazy.....Unfortunately, this is where we are at.....

I will try to remember to get some pics.

My plane is a Caudren v1. I have a Neu Motors 1515/1.5y motor with a CC 130V ESC that I run 2700mah-3300mah 6s batteries. The plane has a hatch on the top to access the area that the battery goes into.

I am, when I can, testing the draw on the batteries to find the sweet spot I like with regards to overall draw so that I can extend the life of the batteries.

I also have been trying the three(3) current 422 props.

I have been getting 10am of laps with the slow down starting around lap8.5. My times are consistent with nitro models, 1:03-1:08 depending on my thumbs.

I really want to try a different model, but that takes $$’s.

Trey,
I am very interested in this, and quite frankly, our heads are in the sand if we don't start making an effort to develop EQ40, EF2, EF1.5 whatever we want to name it.

Between the 2700 and 3300, my thoughts would be the smallest pack that will go two minutes and put no more then 80% of the capacity back in......do you have any numbers? What size pack and C Rating works?

Thanks, Dave

Well, I am stating the obvious, but there are no provisional rules, and Q40 is not an electric class. So, you probably won't find a CD willing to let you put it in a sanctioned contest. "Run what you brung" ant exactly what the NMPRA or AMA are into.

But it would start just like EF-1, with set of provisional rules.

A little open information sharing about set ups and testing would be good.....Gota start somewhere....

Again, does anyone know what size battery with the Neu Motor set up flies for two minutes (one minute wide open) and puts 80%(or less) of the capacity back in?

That's the number I am interested in. Once you have the battery size nailed down, you can mod a current airframe.
