Hellen Keller CG machine

Postby rocket » Thu Jan 25, 2018 4:44 pm

All these years trying to get the CG on an airplane I just put a mark on the wing or the fuse balance it on my fingertips and then look underneath to see how far off from the CG I was. Normally you can't see the line that you put unless you move your finger because your fingers covered up. This time I put the mark on the wing and put a very fine piece of tape just a little wider than the actual Ink. It works kind of a braille locator if you will. I tell you what the single coolest invention next to sliced bread. Now when you CG the airplane You Feel The Mark with your fingertips instead of having to look for it.

It won't work on the Dara with the inboard gear, but I've always extended my CG marks out to the landing gear, then used the landing gear or a bolt to judge where my fingers were compared to the CG.

Rocket,
Is it a better way? My way doesn't require adding any tape. :P

True, but until this thread Noone knew about your way, and, not all planes have gear in the wing to reference from. So yes it's a better way.

Cut the top 1/8th inch off of a pin head and pop it in the wing on the mark with a tiny bit of CA. Feels like real Braille. That also solves the problem when the mark wears off. :D

Ok,
Maybe this is goose talking.
Once the cg is checked on your bench with tape, a dimensional mark and your choice of cg device, why does this need to be a permanent fixture.
Just asking?
Just messin wityu.
