Springfest 2008
San Gabriel Valley Springfest 2008, Whittier CA

SPRINGFEST Q-500 RACE REPORT, MAY 15th & 16th, 2008.

The contest took a little kick starting to get it going and up to speed. The workers needed to be trained to the new pylon system which took a little extra time. However once everyone was lined out with the system it worked nicely and everything was up to speed. We finished a total of eight rounds with a few fly-offs by Sunday afternoon. There were several spectacular crashes. One particular one with Scott McAfee and Gino Delponte occured at pylon one. Gino's white Ninja turned into little white "Ninja Flakes". Scott's plane gutted Gino's and took Gino's radio gear out with Scott's landing gear. Gino also planted his other Ninja around 2 & 3 from bad air. The fastest guy at the contest was Jimmy Allen and he was the winner as well. Nice job Jimmy! The 424/ APRA class was won by "Jimbo" Padelt. He got fast time as well. Jimbo is a good kisser too! (You had to be there.)

I would like to thank all of the contestants, callers and workers that came out and supported this contest. It would not have been possible without your participation and help. Here are some pictures for all to enjoy.

Thanks again,
Lee Von Der Hey.

Scott McAfee with with a big smile. He has no idea the misfortune that is about to rain down upon him and his Slingshot. POOF!

They came all the way from the state of Washington to enjoy the So. Ca. weather and racing. (the pesky one on the right) Matt Russell, finished in tenth place.

Gary Schmidt with his cool looking NEME-Q.

Jimmy Allen with his NEME-Q. There were more NEME-Qs at this contest than any other design. In fact they took the top 4 out of five spots.

Tony Lopez finished in 3rd place. He was flying a very fast Slingshot from Darrol Cady which is made in Austrailia. Tony and Jim Allen were tied in points until the last round when Tony tried to take a couple of short-cuts that he really did not need to take. Knowing Tony, that won't happen again for a long time.
