424 SHOOT-OUT 2008
May 17th, 2008 - Ordered By Points

San Gabriel Valley Shoot-out 2008, Whittier CA

424/ APRA Shoot-Out Race Results , MAY 17th, 2008.

I would like to start off by thanking everyone that attended this contest. We had a total of 28 entries with Standard and Expert combined. I would also like to thank all of the course workers that came out and helped to make this contest a success. If you would like to see all of the standings you can look at the forum under Rick Marquez.s post and you will see a photo of the finish order. When the dust settled it was Bobby Ponek who beat Gino Delponte in a First place fly-off for $500.00 cash and a pretty nice engraved money clip. Good job Bobby! Gino finished in second winning $300.00 and a money clip. Lee Von Der Hey finished third and had fast time winning $200.00 and a money clip. Dan Duffy got fast time in the Standard class with a 1:30.68 over first time racer Dan Fong's 1:30.70. winning a new Thunder Tiger .40 Pro. Good job to both Dans! The two planes that went the fastest were a Viper and a wood Revo. There did not seem to be any advantage to having a composite airframe with a TTP.40 over the wood airframes on the the short course. All in all everyone seemed to be having a lot of fun and enjoyed helping the new racers as well as the existing ones that needed a little help.

I would like to thank all of the contestants, callers and workers that came out and supported this contest. It would not have been possible without your participation and help. Here are some pictures for all to enjoy.

Thanks again,
Lee Von Der Hey.

He lost fast time in the Standard Class by .02 seconds to Dan Duffy.

Scott McAfee with his soon to be dead Viper. The latest version of his crash story was that there was a huge amount of bad air due to a flock of Canadian geese that flew over pylon one which piched the poor helpless little Viper into the ground.

The CD Lee Von Der Hey wins third, fast time and a money clip. Fast time was a 1:16.92.
