Thanks, Lonnie! I'll have to start picking out my best JR servos, eh? :)
Out of all the places we could be, this is one of them.

Wichita is on your way back from Reno, just stop in for a few days and have a little fun with some toy airplanes.

I guess it's about time for the "how things are going to work" post.

A trailer to be used to haul us back and forth from the pitts is still up in the air but we believe we've got it handled. Now onto the rules.

1. ADDENDUM/RULES DEVIATION In the event a light and a cut are given on the same lap at pylon 1 the cut will stand and a refly will not be granted.

2. Field will be open and course set up by 9am on Friday for practice. We will be pitting on the East side of the field (opposite as the shelter/shed) for practice and racing days. NO flying or running engines before 8 am any day.

2. Registration will end on Friday night. If you aren't able to make it out to the field on Friday to get signed up, make sure I know so I can get you into the Matrix. If I don't know about you and you don't show up until Sat morning you won't be in the matrix.

3. Race Days - test flying will be from 8-9:00, Pilots meeting around 9:15 and first heat around 9:30. We may adjust Sunday's schedule depending on how far we get on Saturday.

4. We will take a lunch break as close to noon as we can be. I would appreciate it if we can stick to a break of 45 minutes.

5. We are still deciding between 3 or 4 plane heats. It will partially depend on the final number of pilots we get to show up.

We want to get you as much flying as possible, we will do at least 8 rounds but shooting for 10, so we appreciate everyone's cooperation in keeping things going.

Let me know if you have any questions and I look forward to seeing you all in a few weeks.

Add Pat Redig and Pat Galarneault Minnesota) to your already really long list of pilots for the Tallman race. We'll be arriving late Friday afternoon, so, if we miss you, please put us in the matrix

I've edited the pilots list to add the Pat's and took off a few that aren't going to be able to make it. Just a couple weeks away now, see you then.

AJ,

Did you mean "action" or "Auction"?

Another year, another Tallman Legacy Race is in the books. As usual Vernelle was out on Thursday mowing and making sure the field was all ready to go. And then she comes out on race days and provides more food than we can ever eat. We had our usual group of workers that did a fantastic job of calling cuts, there were a couple I wished weren't called on me  , and giving us consistent lights down at pylon 1. Friday's weather for practice was a little sketchy in the morning with a low ceiling with some occasional mist that finally turned into rain that lasted for a little while. But after that the skies opened up and it was a nice sunny day. Saturday was mostly sunny through out the day but we did have a little of the KS winds at about 15 - 20 mph, fortunately they were straight down the runway. The racing was as close as ever and this was proven by all the carnage we saw, at last count I was at 10 airplanes being re-kitted. A couple were due to the wind, 3 or 4 were from midairs and a couple from folded wings. We were able to get 6 full rounds of 10 heats in on Saturday and were loading up around 4ish. Sunday's weather was looking very bleak after a storm had rolled in on Saturday night, but the rain was pushed south of us. We were able to get 2 more rounds in before the winds switched from the south to the north, almost instantaneously, from the cold front moving through. That was around 11 so I decided 8 rounds was enough racing so we went over ate some lunch and gave out the trophies and drew the raffle for the BC Ashley and Vortex. Duane Hulen was able to stay out of the carnage on Saturday and came out on top only losing 1 point the whole weekend. There was a 3 way tie for 2nd between Jim Allen, Richard Oliver and Rich Beers. Richard Oliver made the ultimate sacrifice in his final race by crashing his plane on the final lap right at the finish line to stay tied with the other two, so he elected not to play with the other two in the fly off. Rich and Jim went out for what was sure to be a barn burner of a fly off but Jim's engine had decided it was done racing and died on the line which gave Rich the 2nd place finish and Jim 3rd place. Jim and I had a battle of a race in the final round. I ended up cutting on lap 9 giving Jim the win. To add salt to the wound I pushed him into beating fast time that I'd set the day before by .02 seconds, he turned a 1:00.81. The complete final results are attached below.

It's become somewhat of a tradition to have Vernelle Tallman pull the names for the raffle and this year was no different. The first name the pulled was Doug Scherrer and he chose the BC Ashley. The second name she pulled was Dennis Cranfil so he got the Vortex. Dennis was so appreciative of wining that he volunteered to take care of donating the raffle prize for next year. Thanks so much for that Dennis, it's in the true spirit of Mike.

I want to say a final thanks to all you guys that sacrifice your time to come out and support this race. Mike was a great mentor, racer and person and it means the world to me that we're able to honor his legacy with this race.

Here are the results and some pictures that were taken.
