!!PLEASE READ!! TANGERINE Q40 2024 !!!!!

Post by G.Freeman Jr. »

So after a few conversations it has come to my attention that getting some engines/parts in the US is becoming very difficult. I think now is a better time than ever to think about the future of racing and where we will go from here when it comes to engine manufactures. I have talked with many people including Dub and they agree.

With that being said, I want some feedback if everyone would be ok if I allowed the use of DKT, Fora, and Profi engines (all approved F3T engines) in Q40 at Tangerine this year. I need to make a decision by the 6th in order to meet the 30 days notice on this prior to race.

Please don’t turn this into a bashing session, think about the future and where we need to go to keep this hobby going for many years to come.

I will likely allow this unless there is a large majority against it. I don’t want to lose any racers.

Thank you
Gary Jr

I support it. Yes, allow other manufactures.

Thanks,

As most of us can say,,,, we are addicted,,,,, total junkies,,,,, and what's our addiction,,, clearly not the equipment, if a new one something comes out we buy at least two,,,, regardless!!!!!

It's the Starting Line, The Clock, The adrenaline, controlling a 200 mph projectile in three dimensional space,,, and then trying to safely land the sucker   :o :D

Of course allow other equipment!!!

I have also heard about parts and engine availability issues pertaining to both engine manufacturers in the USA from very reliable sources. It’s time to release the hounds, I am in agreement with letting other engine manufacturers in the world participate in our Quarter 40 events.

I won't say "I told you so". Wait..... I told you so !

I have been suggesting for the last couple of years that the AMA rules committee for pylon racing should consider "pre-approval" of alternate engines in the event that supply of the two approved engines was ever threatened. If pre-approved, then quick action could be taken to implement an alternate engine.

Gary, it looks like you are taking that action anyway so good on you.
I think it's a step in the right direction.

So, Jimmy Allen is coming to tangerine? We'll need a of list of the motors and whos flying them. Also, price is an issue. Heard "rumors" after the conversion to usd and shipping their tapping a grand. This needs to be addressed. Whos importing them, who's distributing them, etc, etc. After that it's a yes for me.
And I said, here am I send me.

Randy, we already have a built in pre-approval process, it is called F3T. This is the main reason AMA did not take action. Action was happening and the thought was it could be adapted when we were ready. We were not ready over the last couple of years. We still had some stability with our two MFG's.

Fast forward to today... we are not as stable. Is the sky falling? NO. Can we buy parts from both Jett and Nelson? Yes, for how long that is unclear. The problem we are faced with is at some point we will not be able to buy parts, whether it be on an ongoing basis or production of complete motors being stopped for a period of time until components can be sourced. Not good. Should we change the rules today? I don't think so.

Should we start testing other MFG's? My opinion is yes. WE need to know what works and what doesn't. WE CANNOT have another LS disaster. We need to be prepared and the best way to gather info is on the race course, by experienced pilots using the equipment. This is the best kind of testing. This is what we did with both EF-1 and AMA 424E.

Personally, I don't have enough info today to make a change to the rules. However, I think allowing events to run other motors is a good test for all of us. Part of this is whether or not we upset the apple cart in either direction. IF the new motors aren't as good as the current, and one event is not enough data, or are far better, we are in trouble in either case. We need a couple events of testing to see what we have.

It's a mess. On top of everything, we do not have a legal engine in the US. Both the Nelson and Jett mufflers do not meet the current rules. We have been allowing this as we discuss a future plan. Do we have a plan? There is a proposal in the works. Performance is a big concern, availability is another significant concern. We are faced with addressing both and opening up testing is the correct move in my opinion.

I agree with and like the Real Life, Real Time testing under actual conditions!!!

If we fiddled with the Matrix a bit, we could have our better pilots with diff equipment, fly a heat or two,,, the Pit area would love that!!!,,, I even hear Rocket is improving??,, so plenty of pilots,,,,

Just a Scotty thought   :o :D

Here's my question. Are there parts that are interchangeable from our currently approved engines, with the newly sourced engines? I could be wrong, but I think that it is a possibility. It would be nice if my concerns were unfounded.

Greg, other than mufflers, I am not aware of any interchangeable parts. Pistons, Sleeves, Rods, bearings, cranks, are all slightly different.

We pulled the sanction and asked for a deviation to allow DKT, Fora, and Profi in Q40 for tangerine. I hope this doesn't discourage anyone away, but I think we need to start thinking about our long term future.
