My thought are this might be premature! Yes possibly this might be the future but not yet! We need to support our engine builders until they decide to move on! I’m afraid this could provide a push to end support!
This sport is so fragile both in active pilots and engine mfg future support! As DK stated we don’t need another LS issue! Racing support on the west coast plummeted when the need to purchase all new engines!
Our two engine mfg are so evenly matched now more than ever!
My thoughts!

For what it's worth, I do NOT feel this is premature at all. In fact, I thank all of those who are being proactive in preserving our sport.
My only concern is the negative impact this may have to our overall numbers. I'm not sure how many people are willing to retool and pay (potentially) $1000 for an engine.
Hoping we arrive at solution. Looking forward to hearing the reports from this race. Unfortunately I cannot make this one.
Good luck to all!

It’s about time. We could just run F3T events in the US.

FAI F3T event is not head to head racing! FAI prefers the time trial approach. Virtually all motor sports feature head to head racing. Time trails are used in qualifying for starting order. I my opinion our AMA racing provides the most exciting racing for the pilots. You also do not need to be the fastest to win which gives everyone a chance! You also do not see 40 or more pilots in a single FAI event!

Agreed. While I’ve flown FAI and enjoy the challenge of the time trial format, I don’t believe it would be good for racing in the US. Head to head racing gives more people a chance at good finishes through consistent flying while faster guys force each other into cuts, etc. The time trial format, especially with dropped scores, pretty much guarantees only the fastest guys will end up at the top of the finish order.MLH wrote: ↑Thu Nov 14, 2024 9:23 am FAI F3T event is not head to head racing! While great for bragging rights among the fastest racers, it could push other people away.

Maybe dual scoring? It would require a few tweaks and adjustments that could make it possible. I think that a CD can specify a FAI course if those waters want to be tested. In the end you would be competing for a “Consistency Award.”

We did this a few year's ago in Muncie at a CAPS race to test Tom Mel'sheimer's system for the world championships. This was a different format from what we are use to. I believe that over all, most people did not like this format at all. The changing of lanes caused a lot of issues with callers and lead to more cut and frustration from pilot. Now I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just speaking from what I saw and over heard
