I am soliciting feedback for preferred race format for the Houston race this year, assuming the dates are approved by the club.
I have been interested in the possibility of running a "Championship" style Quickie race. To my knowledge, we have never done a Quickie Champ race. My thoughts are we would run 1 - 2 day race for both AMA 426 and AMA 424. Depending on entries, cash prizes would be awarded. This allows us to focus on 2 events and get at least 8 rounds in for each event over the weekend. I think this would be a fun and laid back format.
Otherwise, we would run the standard quickie classes on Saturday and Q-40 and possibly EF-1 on Sunday. Our goal would be to get 5 rounds in each day for each event, however, that can be difficult on Sunday with flight schedules, etc.
Please let me know your thoughts on which format you would prefer, either by contacting me directly or reply here. Please only reply if you plan to attend the race.

Re: Feedback wanted
There were a handful of NMPRA Q500 Championship races for 428 Quickie in the early 90's. I know one was in Phoenix (pre-Nelson) and one was run by Dickie Ritch in Houston (post-Nelson). I think there was also one in Alabama, but not sure if it was before or after Houston, or whether it was pre or post Nelson.
That being said, I think a two day Q500 race for 424 & 426 would be great!
My attendance would be based on the dates and my work schedule at the time.

Hi All,
Wow, that sounds like a great idea. Count me in for sure. I have 424 and 426 airplanes so I would fly in both events. November 14th and onwards would be great for me. I have to travel from Phoenix so no problem for the mighty Honda Van. I will need one day of travel for sure so please include that.
Thanks very much for all of your organizational efforts. If all the planets align, I might be able to attend with Jimmy Allen pending celestial coordination.
I will also work on Gerald Meux to also attend. He is still working for a living so that may require some massaging....

Re: Feedback wanted
Gary is correct, there was a Q500 Championship held in
Alabama. It was sponsored by the Decatur Model Airplane
club and we raced at the closed Courtland Air Base.
Jim Allen was the CD and I was his helper. I can't remember the exact
year, but it was post Nelson.

If it would draw enough pilots, it would be great.
Here are the results of the first Q500 Champ race at Mile Square Park in ‘ 87.

Re: Feedback wanted
Thanks everyone, so far for your comments. I have had a few reach out via text as well, and so far has been unanimous for a Q-500 Champ Style race. This is great news, as I was hoping we could get enough interest to do this type of race.
Unfortunately Roy, November for Houston gets pretty dicey for weather. It can be anything from absolutely perfect to 30+ mph winds from the north at about 30 degrees F. October is typically pretty stable and nice, so we put in our request with the club for the weekend of October 5 which appears to avoid all other race date conflicts.
I still welcome any feedback. More info to come as we begin planning.
